Microcredit Regulatory Authority
The Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has been established by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh under the "Microcredit Regulatory Authority Act 2006” to promote and foster sustainable development of microfinance sector through creating an enabling environment for NGO-MFIs in Bangladesh. MRA is the central body to monitor and supervise microfinance operations of NGO-MFIs. License from the Authority is mandatory to operate microfinance operations in Bangladesh as an NGO.
 
Regional Conference with MFIs and Banks conducted by MRA at Khulna
 
A regional conference and workshop organized by Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) for NGO-MFIs and Bankers of Khulna was held on 29th October 2011 at CSS Ava Center, Khulna. Dr. Atiur Rahman, Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank and Chairman of Microcredit Regulatory Authority was present as the chief guest in the ceremony while Mr. Khandakar Muzharul Haque, Executive Vice Chairman, MRA delivered his welcome speech to the guest of the occasions. A. K. M Fazlur Rahman, GM of Bangladesh Bank, Khulna Office was present as the special guest. The program was presided over by Md. Jamsher Ahmed Khandakar, Honorable District Commissioner of Khulna. Representatives leading NGO-MFIs and Banks operating in the region attended the ceremony. The main objective of the conference was to develop a rapport among the NGO-MFIs and the local banks thereby increasing the scope of additional funding and loan facilities for NGO-MFIs.
